Nickelodeon Greenlights 26 Additional Episodes of New CG Animated Comedy Series The Penguins of

Based on Penguin Brothers from DreamWorks Animation's Madagascar Franchise, New Comedy to Premiere on Nickelodeon, Saturday, March 28 Following Nickelodeon's 22nd Annual Kids' Choice Awards

Nickelodeon has greenlit 26 additional episodes of the highly anticipated CG animated comedy series The Penguins of Madagascar, a co-production with DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. it was announced today by Cyma Zarghami, President, Nickelodeon and MTVN Kids and Family Group. The pick-up, which further forges the partnership between two of the world's most prolific producers of television and feature film animation, brings the total order to 52 new episodes of the show, which will premiere on Nickelodeon following Nickelodeon's 22nd Annual Kids' Choice Awards on Saturday, March 28 at 9:30 PM (ET/PT). The series will then move to its regular timeslot on Saturdays at 10:00 AM (ET/PT) beginning April 4.

(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20090109/NY57224)

The Penguins of Madagascar, based on the beloved penguin brothers in DreamWorks Animation's hit feature films Madagascar ($532 million worldwide gross) and Madagascar 2: Escape to Africa ($519 million worldwide as of January 2009), tells the story of a group of penguins who believes it leads an elite strike force with top-tier commando skills from its Central Park Zoo headquarters. The series is being produced at the Nickelodeon Animation Studios in Burbank, Calif.

"Our partnership with DreamWorks Animation has yielded a true gem in The Penguins of Madagascar," said Zarghami. "We're excited to be bringing these characters to our audience with the same level of excellence they have come to expect from the hit Madagascar feature films."

Nickelodeon's recent "sneak peeks" of the new series, which premiered over Thanksgiving weekend, drew an average of 14 million viewers (persons 2+, Nov. 28-30), including 7.2 million Kids 2-11.

The series features the all-new adventures of Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private, four penguins who rule the roost at their Central Park Zoo home. While the brothers have their flippers full keeping their multi-species zoo neighborhood happy, at times their secret missions beckon them to venture out to New York City's busy subways and sewer systems. Just as the team thinks it has its urban acreage under control, a new neighbor moves in next door: Julien, a party animal and self-proclaimed "King of the Lemurs," with an entourage and overactive ego. Throughout the season, new animals will be introduced as well as old friends from the "Madagascar" theatrical films.

The Penguins of Madagascar is executive produced by Mark McCorkle and Bob Schooley, (Disney's Kim Possible and Hercules, Sky High) and reprises the voices of Tom McGrath as Skipper and Andy Richter (Late Night with Conan O' Brien) as Mort. Additional voices include Jeff Bennett (Enchanted) as Kowalski, James Patrick Stuart (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation) as Private, John DiMaggio (Futurama) as Rico, Nicole Sullivan (Mad TV) as Marlene, and Danny Jacobs (Futurama) stars as Julien, King of the Lemurs.

Disney, Army Resort Make Vacations More Affordable for Troops

By William Bradner Special to American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Jan. 7, 2009 - A Disney vacation just got more affordable.

With the "Disney's Armed Forces Salute" offer, active and retired U.S. military personnel, including active members of the United States Coast Guard and activated members of the National Guard or Reserves, can enjoy complimentary, multi-day admission into Disney's U.S. theme parks, and additional special ticket offers for family members and friends.

"For so many of the men and women who serve in our U.S. military, time together with their families is cause enough for celebration," said Jay Rasulo, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. "We are grateful for their service and hope 'Disney's Armed Forces Salute' will allow our troops to create wonderful, magical memories with their family and friends."

Shades of Green, a resort hotel on Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla., is open exclusively to servicemembers, retirees, defense civilians, and their families. It is a safe haven for military families whether they're reintegrating after an overseas deployment, having one last "family fling" before mom or dad deploys, or simply getting away for a weekend.

"If I suddenly break down and cry in a Holiday Inn, everyone's going to be looking at me funny," one guest recently explained. "Here, if it suddenly dawns on me he's leaving in a week and I start to cry, I've got 10 people asking how they can help and offering support."

The resort manager, Brian Japak, is a retired soldier, and his son has survived two roadside-bomb attacks while serving in Iraq.

"I have great empathy for the families that we serve here," he said.

Japak said the staff makes every effort to ensure the guests are pampered Disney style -- with just a touch of "home" through the tax-free Army and Air Force Exchange Service shoppette and a Mickey Mouse statue decked out in red, white and blue. Security at the hotel complies with standard base force protection regulations, ensuring the soldiers and families can sleep soundly and not worry about their personal safety.

Shades of Green is an Armed Forces Recreation Center hotel run by the Army's Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Command based in Alexandria, Va. The command's mission is to provide soldiers and their families with the same quality of life they are sworn to protect. Rates are set on a sliding scale, based on rank, and with no shareholders to answer to or profits to be made, the rates are kept remarkably low.

At the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, from Jan. 4 to Dec. 23, each active or retired member of the U.S. military may obtain one free five-day "Disney's Armed Forces Salute" ticket with "Park Hopper" and water park options. The ticket is valid for five days of admission into the four Walt Disney World theme parks, plus a total of five visits to a choice of a Disney water park, DisneyQuest Indoor Interactive Theme Park or certain other attractions.

During this offer period, active or retired U.S. military personnel also may make a one-time purchase up to five "Disney's Armed Forces Salute Companion" tickets - good for five days -- for $99 each, plus tax, for family members or friends. Although this ticket for family members and friends does not include either the Park Hopper or Water Park Fun & More options, it can be upgraded to add either such option, or both, for an additional $25, plus tax, per option. All tickets and options are nontransferable and must be used by Dec. 23.

A similar offer is in place at Walt Disney Land in California. More information is available at installation ITT/ITR offices.

AFRCs offer four other world-class destinations for families, including Edelweiss Lodge and Resort in Garmisch, Germany; Dragon Hill Lodge in Seoul, South Korea; the Hale Koa Hotel in Honolulu, and the Cape Henry Inn and Beach Club at Fort Storey, Va.

Shanghai Disney theme park seen operational by 2013 -report - Zibb.com

The Walt Disney theme park in Shanghai will be operational by 2013, the official Shanghai Securities News reported, citing sources.

It added that Shanghai Lujiazui Finance & Trade Zone Development Co Ltd (SHA 600663; SHB 900932) and Shanghai Wai Gaoqiao Free Trade Zone Development Co Ltd (SHA 600648; SHB 900912) are expected to participate in the project.

The Disney park is expected to be built in the Huanglou district, a 10-minute drive from Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

To support the project, the government will permit 48-hour visa-free entry for transit passengers visiting the park, the report said.

The Disney theme park won approval from the National Development and Reform Commission last month.

Disney, Shanghai complete talks on theme park -paper - Zibb.com

Walt Disney Co has completed talks with the Shanghai government on plans to build a Disneyland theme park in the city and the project will be announced soon, the official Shanghai Securities News reported on Thursday, citing people close to the talks.

Senior Disney executives came to Shanghai last December to discuss details of cooperation with the local government and the two sides achieved a consensus on the project, the newspaper said.

The project, however, has yet to receive approval from China's central government, which will be essential if it is to go ahead.

A spokeswoman for the Shanghai government declined to comment. A Disney representative in Hong Kong could not immediately be reached for comment.

The plan calls for Shanghai Disneyland to open to the public in 2013, the newspaper said, citing an expert involved in the feasibility study for the project.

Disney has engaged in on-again, off-again talks for more than a decade with the Chinese government over plans to build a large theme park and hotel complex in the southern outskirts of Shanghai's Pudong district.

Those talks were stalled by a Shanghai government scandal in 2006 and Disney's need to focus on Hong Kong Disneyland, which opened in 2005 to a string of operational problems and lacklustre attendance.

The Shanghai Securities News also said Shanghai Lujiazui Group and Shanghai Waigaoqiao Group would take part in the construction of the project.

Shares in their listed units Shanghai Lujiazui Finance & Trade Zone Development Co and Shanghai Jinqiao Export Processing Zone Development Co rose their 10 percent daily limits in morning trade on Thursday, although by the end of the morning session they had pared their gains to between 4 and 5 percent.
